Congratulations on your choice to adopt (hopefully not waste money on a store pet).

2 cats ARE better than one. Like any animal they enjoy companionship and since you're at work, its good to have someone else around. Just make sure to have it fixed!! Many rescues and humane societies will include chipping, neuter and shots with your adoption fee.Ive got one cat, want to get another kitten please advise.?
Kellie,
I have two cats now (and 5 dogs and 2 pet rats) and have had many in my life. At 7 months old, it really makes no difference as to gender if they are both spayed or neutered, but I would advise getting an older kitten, 4 to 5 months at least, as your kitten may be too strong and rambunctious to leave with a newly weaned one. As they age, the gender seems more important though.
I personally find male cats become the dominate cat are more protective of spayed females, and spayed females become much more attached to their people and male mates (less aloof). I have a 3 yo male and a 6 yo female. The male is more nocturnal and the female is more aggressive in trying to get him and us to play. When I have had two females they always seemed more competitive.
That said, I always recommend orange tabbies, they seem to have the coolest personalities and for male cats, they seem to enjoy humans the most. Good luck.
Oh yeah, good idea to get a second cat. They are much better at cleaning each others fur than we are! Don't seem to have the same problem with fur sticking to the tongue! LOL.
If you get another female, the won't like each other, but there is a slight possibility, so I'd get a male. But I suspect that your female will be the more dominant cat, because to her, it's a cat invading her property. But which ever is older might feel it's the dominant cat. So there might be some fighting, but it will most likely be play fighting.
With my experience with cat...it wont matter alot if the kitten is male or female because cats act differently towards kittens then they do to adult cats...so as long as you are bringing a kitten into the house it wont matter...just maybe give them they space and seperate water and food dishes so the older cat doesnt get mad that the kitten is stealing its food.
I don't think it really matters what sex the kitten is and just know that it may take some time to adjust. There may be growling and hissing for up to a couple months before they figure it out. Seeming as though your cat currently is pretty young, you probably will not have any issues. Are you located in Portland, Oregon by chance?? I have SEVEN kittens I am fostering that are UP FOR ADOPTION! They need their respective homes....NoW lol :)
if you're only getting another kitten so the first one will play with it and so it wont be bored while you're at work, dont bother...
at 7 months old, your kitty is getting towards the end of her playful kitty stage... and cats are just fine on their own during the day.. they dont need company.. they just chill, sleep, watch things outside... they dont need another kitty pal...
When they are kittens is won't matter. It may matter for the future. Cat societies are matriarchal. The Chinese pictogram for trouble is two females under one roof.
IMO a male kitten would be the best choice for now.

since your cat is female, if you get another female cat, she may get jealous, REALLY jealous. if you get a male cat, be sure to spade him to
